Working with Groups

Groups are the basis for any Treon Connect project with multiple deployment sites. In a Group, assets can be pooled together. For example, a group could be one specific production facility or environment where Treon Connect sensors are deployed.

Groups are the foundation of user access management in Roles.

For accessing the Groups section of Treon Connect follow these steps:

Log in to the Treon Connect web application.
Navigate to the Groups section in the Control panel on the main page.

You will receive a list of all current Groups.

Default Group

When starting with Treon Connect, only Default group exists. At this point, all linked devices your Treon Connect deployment are assigned to Default group.

Any new devices added to a Treon Connect deployment are automatically assigned to Default group. You can later reassign these devices to other groups as needed.

If a group containing linked devices is deleted, all devices from this Group are automatically moved back to Default group.

The Default group itself cannot be deleted. However, you can reassign devices from this Group to other Groups. In this case, Default group will empty until new devices are added or existing devices are moved back to Default group.

Groups hierarchy

Groups in Treon Connect are organized in a hierarchical structure, forming a tree-like arrangement. Each Group can contain multiple sub-groups, and those sub-groups can also have their own sub-groups, and so on. This structure allows you to:

Organize Assets logically by site, department, or function.
Apply permissions and roles at different levels of the hierarchy.
Easily manage large deployments with multiple layers of grouping.

Creating Groups

You can create new Groups at the top level or at any point within the hierarchical tree structure. This flexibility allows you to organize devices according to your operational needs, whether by site, department, or function.

Accessing the Groups management app

Log in to your Treon Connect account.
From the main menu, click the Groups app icon.

Creating new Groups

To create new Groups in your Treon Connect environment follow these steps:

Click the Create Groups button in the top-right corner.
In the pop-up window:
- Choose a Parent Group. The first time you create a Group, this field will be empty. After creating Groups, you can choose them as Parent Group.
- Enter a Group Name to name the Group.
- Add a Group Description to describe the Group.
Click Create Group.

The Group has now been created successfully.

Editing Groups

You can edit existing Groups to change their parent Group, their name and their description.

Accessing the Groups management app

Log in to your Treon Connect account.
From the main menu, click the Groups app icon.

Editing the Group

To edit an existing Group, follow these steps:

Select the Group or sub-group you would like to edit.
Click on the arrow on the right-hand side next to the Group you want to edit.
In the pop-up window, you can select a new Parent Group, change the Group Name, and change the the Group Description.
After you are finished editing the Group, select Save Changes.
You have now successfully edited the Group.

✅ You can reset your changes at any point by pressing *Reset Changes.

Filtering and searching for Groups

To filter the list of Groups, follow these steps:

Click the Filters button in the top menu.
A new window filter options will pop up. Use the Columns fields to narrow results by:
- Name: filter by Group names
- Description: filter by words and phrases in the Group’s description
- Devices: filter by Devices within the Group
The Operators let you define the condition for the Column filters:
- contains: contains at least partly
- equals: is exactly the same as
- starts with: the beginning of the value matches
- ends with: the end of the value matches
- is empty: contains no value
- is not empy: contains any value
- is any of: contains any of these values
The Value contains the filter value defined by Columns and Operator.
You can combine mutiple filters with Add Filter.

You can also use the Search function to find a specific group.

Exporting a list of Groups

In order to export the whole list of users, or a filtered list of users, follow these steps:

Log in to the Treon Connect web application.
Navigate to the Groups section in the Control panel on the main page.
Click the Export button in the top menu.
Choose your preferred format* to download the user list:
- CSV: downloads the user list as CSV file (.csv).
- Excel: downloads the user list as Excel file (.xlsx).
- Print: prints the user list with one of your installed printers.

Deleting Groups

Accessing the Groups management app

Log in to your Treon Connect account.
From the main menu, click the Groups app icon.

Deleting a Group

To delete an existing Group, follow these steps:

Select the Group or sub-group you would like to delete.
Click on the arrow on the right-hand side next to the Group you want to delete.
In the pop-up window, press Delete in the top-right corner.
A confirmation window pops up. Press Delete Group to confirm.
The Group has now been deleted successfully.

⚠️ When deleting Groups, all linked devices in the Group will be automatically re-assigned to Default group.
